Also known as: Clearpay; Afterpay (international)
Clearpay is a Buy Now Pay Later service that allows shoppers to split purchases into four equal fortnightly payments. It is the UK trading name of Afterpay, a major BNPL provider originally from Australia, which is now part of Block, Inc. (formerly Square).
When you use Clearpay at checkout — either online or in store at participating retailers — the cost of your purchase is divided into four payments. The first payment is made immediately and the remaining three are charged automatically every two weeks. If payments are made on time, there is no interest or fees.
If you miss a payment, Clearpay charges a late fee. The product is designed to be used for everyday retail purchases at clothing, beauty, homeware, and other consumer goods retailers. It is not suitable as a long-term borrowing product.
Clearpay has been subject to growing regulation of the Buy Now Pay Later sector. The FCA has been developing rules to regulate BNPL products more formally, which may affect how companies like Clearpay operate. Customers should always check they can afford all four payments before using BNPL for a purchase.
If you have a Clearpay account and need to contact them, support is available at clearpay.co.uk. Clearpay Finance Limited is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
If you are struggling with Clearpay repayments or late fees are adding up, contact Clearpay directly. Free debt advice is available from StepChange on 0800 138 1111, Citizens Advice, or National Debtline at no cost. You should not need to pay for help with any debt matter.
